Bahige Mohamad (Paul) Faouaz
It is with the deepest sadness that we announce the passing of our Baba (Bahige Mohamad Faouaz) on Friday, November 3rd, 2017 after an unbelievable battle with cancer.
Born in Tibnin, Lebanon on June 1, 1939, Baba immigrated to Canada in 1966, without even a winter coat to his name. He met our dear mother Lorraine in Ottawa and together they proceeded to raise a family of seven children while owning and operating a range of small businesses in the west Ottawa neighborhood, which would be his home base for the next 50 years.
Baba, widely known as Paul from the Paul's Diner (on Somerset) days, was a fixture in the local scene and touched people from all walks of life for all of his many years.
Baba had a special ability to connect with everyone around him, as seen in the tears of even the hospital staff at his last residence of Saint Vincent Hospital.
He leaves as his legacy one proud son, Jemal, and six loving daughters, Mariam, Roxanne, Linda, Louise, Natalie and Tina, and his dear sons-in-law, Shawn and Dan. He was always grateful to Patrick (Karen) and to Stephanie as well.
Baba will always be the proudest of grandfathers, worshipping each and every one of his 11 grandchildren, Alex, Katrina, Adam, Olivia, Ocean, Julia, Rebecca, Emma, Hannah, Jacob and Samantha (and his great-grandson, Liam) with a love that too few are lucky to experience.
Also remembering Bahige are his sister Layla (in Lebanon), and his many nieces and nephews and cousins around Canada and the world.
We will all continue to do you proud, our Dear Baba.
Funeral will be held Monday, November 6th at 12:30 pm at the Ottawa Mosque (251 Northwestern Avenue, Ottawa, ON K1Y 0M1)
Internment to follow at the Ottawa Muslim Cemetery (1668 Manotick Station Road, Greely, ON, K4P 1M9)
A Celebration of Baba's Life with light refreshments will be held back at the Ottawa Mosque from 4:00 pm to 7:30 pm. (Monday, November 6th)
It would be Baba's honour to give donations to the Saint Vincent Hospital in lieu of flowers.
