• Bob Rosenlund

  • March 19, 1964 - April 07, 2017

The Rosenlund Family is deeply saddened by the passing of their husband, father, son, brother and uncle after a courageous battle with cancer.

Bob lived by his own set of values: family first. It was hard to distinguish on any given day whether soccer or the fire department came in second! Bob will be remembered for his commitment, generousity, hard work, and – of course – his sense of humour. Bob never gave up on his fight against cancer, and neither did his wife, Lori, his sons, and all of the friends and family who surrounded him. His sense of humour was steadfast, and his friends and family were lucky to take comfort in his witty quips and funny jokes.

Bob was born into a large and loving family, the youngest boy in a family of six children. Dan and Margaret Rosenlund, both born in Vancouver, raised their family in the same home they share today. The six kids – Dan, Doug, Bill, Dave, Bob and Allison – were raised around a common denominator: team sports.  Soccer, baseball, hockey and dance ruled the household. And all Rosenlund children excelled – Bob, exceptionally so.

Bob was a natural athlete and an accomplished soccer player, competing at the National level as a young man. In 1980 at age sixteen, Bob was awarded the Vancouver Sun Soccer Boy. In 1982, he was drafted by the New York Cosmos. He also played for the Edmonton Eagles of the CPSL and the Vancouver Firefighters Soccer Club where he continued to play until his diagnosis with cancer at the age of 45. A dedicated and successful coach, Bob led teams that won many games and secured many championships. Bob’s talent on the soccer field was a gift to a family who prized athletics as much as the Rosenlund family.

In 1985, Bob met Lori Kerr, both twenty-one-years-old, on – where else? – a soccer pitch. Bob and Lori hit it off instantly. Within a year, they were married and shortly after that, Bob and Lori welcomed their first son, Tyler Robert, into the world. Four years later, Matthew Daniel, would follow and fourteen years later, Cole James, was born. Three boys – all of whom excel in soccer today. Bob was a loving and dedicated father who put his children above anything else – Bob didn’t miss a single game or practice. Bob’s love of the ‘Beautiful Game’ will live on in his sons.

Lori and Bob spent 32 years by each other’s sides raising their family in Port Coquitlam.  They vacationed all over the world from Disney Land to Hawaii to Holland, and fulfilling Bob’s lifelong dream of attending the Euro in France 2015.  Anyone who knows Lori and Bob know that they did everything together – a true partnership – enjoying any time they could at their Birch Bay condo.

Bob was a proud member of the Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services (VFRS) for 22 years. He finished his career as a Captain in the Fire Prevention division and had so many great friends there.  Bob is remembered by his VFRS colleagues as a leader to all – and with a great sense of humour. Hard-working, supportive and generous, Bob did everything for his team.

In addition to Lori, Tyler (Meghan), Matt (Kathy) and Cole, Bob is survived by parents, Dan & Margaret; brothers, Dan, Doug (Kelly), Bill (Cathy), Dave (Katherine), and sister, Allison; and nephews, nieces & grand-nieces: Jordan (Deanna, Nora & Stella), Brandan (Michelle), Hayley (Rasmus), Fairen, Connor, Tamara (Brett), Courtney, Megan, Karly, Brina & Nick. He will also be missed by sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Kerry & Brent Bettino, Tracy Kerr, Kelly & Mike Atlee, Ian Kerr (Gosia); and nieces & nephews, Kyle Stewart, Jenny Kerr Pronovost (Steve), Kaci Atlee, and his special niece, Brittney Kerr-Smith (Mike) who was like a daughter to Lori & Bob.

Throughout Bob’s illness and treatment, he would not have been able to spend the time at home with his family without the support of his VFRS brothers and sisters. On behalf of Bob and the Rosenlund family, we would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude and appreciation.

The Memorial Service will be held on April 20th, 2017 at the First Baptist Church, 969 Burrard St at 10am. Reception to follow at the Firefighters Club, 6515 Bonsor Ave, Burnaby.
