Nelson Brooks Giles aka "Guapo", born on February 24, 1944 in Montreal, Canada to the late Eleanor Giles and the late Drummond Giles, passed away at age 74 on August 27, 2018 in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. He was a fixed wing and helicopter pilot as well as an entrepreneur in the wood, shipping and consultancy industries.
Brooks was preceded in death by his brother, Bevans; and sister, Jennifer. He is survived by his son, Christian; daughters, Caroline and Jesse; sister, Carol; and grandchildren, Valeria, Bruno, Beatriz, Eduardo, and Rodrigo. Brooks was an avid sailor and man of many interests and hobbies, such as golf, painting, stained glass, woodworking and playing a number of musical instruments.
Brooks was fun, gregarious and had a very well developed sense of humor. Amongst his closest and most loyal friends were the members of the "Prayer Group" in which he served as the Grand Wizard for many years.
I hadn't received one of Brooks's cryptic phone messages for some time now ("Combien sont ces saucisses...?"), which always cracked me up, and now I realize that a warm friendship going back to our days at McGill has now taken on a cosmic dimension, where I can envision "The Greatest...
Brooks was an exceptional person. I went to Bishop’s College School in Quebec years ago when he was there. Brooks was a very good athlete - especially in track and field.
We were close in age and kept in touch over the years - mostly written, audio, and video.
