Sharon Egbert (Bresnahan) passed away on Sunday, December 17 in Portland, ME at the age of 70.  She passed away at The Cedars where she fought a long battle with Frontal Temporal Dementia and Multiple Sclerosis.  She received excellent care and died surrounded by her family.

Sharon grew up in West Springfield, MA.  She was the daughter of the late John and Frances Bresnahan.  She is survived by her two daughters and their husbands, Shea and Joseph McGonigal and Danielle and Glenn Petruzzi.  She leaves behind five grandchildren: Jersi and Ruby McGonigal and Joshua, Noah and Manny Petruzzi.  She also leaves behind her beloved sister and brother-in-law, Noreen and Bruce Hildreth; her brother and sister-in-law, Guy and Karen Bresnahan; her brother and sister-in-law, Brian and Lynn Bresnahan.  She also leaves a large and loving circle of nieces and nephews.

Sharon graduated from University of Massachusetts where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority and captain of the cheerleading squad.  She later earned a Master’s Degree in Psychology and went on to open her own Christian counseling practice, a calling of hers which made an enormous difference in countless lives.

Sharon was a devoted Christian and a member of the Boston Church of Christ and later the Casco Bay Church of Christ.  She was an avid student of the Bible and considered her faith to be her greatest treasure.

Sharon was known for her mischievous and infectious sense of humor.  Through all of the challenges she faced, she maintained the ability to lose herself in a fit of laughter.  She had a tremendous sense of style and a flair for decorating.  She had a passionate love of the ocean and spent many hours sitting near the water with her Bible open and a latte in hand. In spite of her own difficulties, she remained generous and eager to help those in need.  She will be so deeply missed and forever loved.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to one of Sharon’s favorite charities, HOPE Worldwide. 4231 Balboa Avenue, #330 San Diego, CA 92117.
